Legends of Dutchess Exhibit

After over a year of renovations the museum has opened our new permanent exhibition, "Legends of Dutchess",  highlighting dozens of athletes who have made it to the professional level. Also covering over 20 sports and their artifacts.

The Facility

We are located at the scenic 99.7 acre Carnwath Farms Historic Site & Park in Wappinger, NY. The museum, Gift Shop, Snack Bar and Theatre have been completely renovated and modenized and is housed on the first floor level within the Reese Cultural Center.

Dutchess County Sports Hall of Fame

Sports Museum are accepting nominations of individuals for induction into their Hall of Fame. Candidates (living or deceased) must have been active contributors in the area of sports or recreation within Dutchess County. Criteria for acceptance will be efforts in enhancing a sport through organizing, coaching, sponsoring, etc. Accomplishments achieved during active participation in a sport or activities for which one was compensated, is not eligible for consideration.

Legends are Born Here

In Dutchess County "Legends are Born Here" and the Sports Museum of Dutchess County tell you the stories of our area's top athletes and teams.

Sports Museum Grand Re-Opening

The Sports Museum Board of Directors invite you to our Grand Re-Opening Celebration on May 4, 2019 from 12-4pm.  After years of renovations, politics, and hard work; the Sports Museum of Dutchess County will be reopening to the public! Marking the start of the 2019 season, the Museum and the Town of Wappinger will be hosting a Grand Re-Opening reception at 12 noon to rededicate the Museum and to officially open the "Legends of Dutchess" exhibition. The Museum has been completely renovated and revived to tell the stories of over a dozen athletes from Dutchess County who made it to the professional level as well as the history of a wide variety of sports throughout the county's history. We hope to see you at the Museum very soon!

Museum Events

The Sports Museum of Dutchess County was founded in 1972 by several sports minded community members to preserve the rich history of sports here in Dutchess County, New York. The Hudson Valley's only museum dedicated to sports was just remodeled and a new permanent exhibition, Legends of Dutchess, highlights over a dozen athletes who made it to the professional level from Dutchess County. Our exhibits include those covering different sports played in the area with their artifacts and notable athletes. We are open weekends  from May to October, please call ahead before arriving.
